Treatments for health promotion

This therapy includes three phases, Poorva Karma (Preparatory method), Pradhana karma (Main treatments) and Paschat karma (Rejuvenation) which include preparatory methods like Snehanam, Swedanam, Oil Massages, Sirodhara, Elakizhi, Podikizhi, Pizhichil, Njavarakizhi, Sirovasthy, Panchakarma methods like Nasyam, Vamanam, Virechanam, Vasthi and rektha mokshanam and all Rejuvenating treatments.

Traditional foot massage (Chavittithirumal)

Done by foot of the therapist with herbal oil over the entire body. Head and face will be massaged by the hands. It is a unique deep healing massage of Kerala.

Powder Massage (Udwarthanam)

Done with specially formulated herbal powder in Upward direction which removes the excessive fat in the body.
Indication: This treatment is mainly for obesity, for lightness and freshness. Also good for rheumatic problems.

Choorna pinda Sweda

It is one among the hot application (ooshma sweda) treatment. It is done with boluses of various herbal powders. The hot boluses should be gently applied over the body, after confirming the temperature, just pressing the body with boluses should be done, no need of kneading.

Patra pottali sweda (Ela kizhi)

It refers to the sudation performed by specially prepared bundle of medicinal leaves. The prepared pottali should be heated with suitable oil in a hot iron pan and applied throughout the body with mild pressure.
Indication: Good for relieving body pain, Neuralgia, Muscle stiffness, low back ache and neck problems.

Jambeera pinda sweda

The Jambeera pinda sweda is performed with the bolus of lemone fruit pieces and some herbal medicinal powders. The bolus should be heated with suitable oil and applied throughout the body with mild pressure.

Kayaseka with oil

In this treatment the warmed oil is poured all over the body / specific part for a stipulated period in a specific manner.

Kayaseka with Kwatha

In this treatment the warmed decoction is poured all over the body for a stipulated period in a specific manner.

Pizhichil

It is a modified form of Kayaseka developed by Keraleeya vaidyas and extensively practiced. Warm oil should be poured by squeezing the cloth pieces held in one hand of masseurs. The oil should flow, in uniform stream from the thumb facing downwards, from a specific height.
Indication: Hemiplegia, rheumatic complaints, joint stiffness, nervous disorders and paralysis.

Sirovasthi

Sirovasthi is a procedure in which the medicated oil is allowed to stay over the head for the prescribed time with the help of a cap fitted around the head.
Indication: Facial paralysis, memory ailment, sleep disorders.

Nasyam

Application of herbal juices,medicated oil or ghee into the nostrils.
Indication: Headache, migrane, sinusitis, sleep disorders, nasal congestion, allergic disorders.

Sirodhara

In which suitable oil is continuously poured on the fore head and then allowing to flow over the scalp from a specific height.
Indication: It is usually done for anxiety, insomnia, Neurological, psychological and psycho somatic disorders.

Siropichu

This is a variety of application of oil to the head , in which cotton/gauze soaked with oil is kept on the head for a prescribed time.
Indication: head ache, hair loss, graying of hair, psychological disorders.

Sirolepam

This is the application of paste form of herbal medicine over the head thickly and covered with lotus leaf / other medicinal leaves.
Indication: Sleep disorders, stress, head ache.

Kati Vasthi

In this warm oil is kept at low back region for a prescribed time. The patient lies in prone position and the low back region is encircled with thick black gram paste for the retention of the oil.
Indication: Very effective treatment for low back ache.

Shashtika pinda sweda (Njavara kizhi)

This treatment is performed all over the body / specific part of the body with the bolus of boiled Shashtika shali (rice having medicinal properties) with decoction and milk.
Indication: Rheumatic complaints, muscle wasting, atrophy, joint pain, general weakness.

Lepanam

Application of paste form of herbal medicines locally / whole body. It is very effective in inflamation conditions.

Tharpanam

It is an effective treatment for the visual defects in which medicated oil is allowed to stay over both the eyes for a specific period.

Uro Vasthi

In this warm oil is kept at the chest region.
Indication: Chest pain due to trauma.

Greeva Vasthi

In this warm oil is kept at neck region.
Indication: Cervical spondylosis, other degenerative diseases of cervical spine.

Janu Vasthi

Warm oil is allowed to stand over particular knee area for prescribed period of time.
Indication: Knee joint pain, degenerative knee joint diseases.

Swedanam

It is the process of elimination of doshas through the sweat with the help of steam / direct or indirect application of heat.

Avagaha sweda

Avagaha is a type of sudation therapy, in which the patient is made to sit / lie in a tub containing medicated decoction to produce fomentation to the body.

Upanaha

In this treatment the prepared herbal medicines should be pasted on the affected part thickly and is covered with suitable medicinal leaves and then tied with cotton cloth.

Sirovasthi

Sirovasthi is a procedure in which the medicated oil is allowed to stay over the head for the prescribed time with the help of a cap fitted around the head.
Indication: Facial paralysis, memory ailment, sleep disorders.

Karnapooranam

Application of medicated oil / herbal juices into the ear. Effective treatment for hearing problems.

Ksheera dhooma

In this treatment steam is generated by boiling milk and herbal decoctions and applied to face and shoulder region.
Indication: Facial paralysis, speech problems, problems related to tongue.

Takradhara

Takradhara is a variety of sirodhara, in which medicated butter milk is poured in a continuous stream over the forehead, in a specific manner.

Face pack

Application of paste form of herbal medicines to the face to improve the complexion and tone of the skin.

Body pack

Application of herbal paste over the whole body.
